Question

With the Bobby Womack / Ibrahim Ferrer similarity I was referring purely to the voice. Smile

well, i mean, both ibrahim and bobby have (had - r.i.p.) a "old person" voice. martina and yukimi, both, have a young lady sexy voice, know?

and shaun and lou reed (well, there are 20 years between them) both have a 45-50 man voice.

Yes, and because of that, the cast on Plastic Beach sounds similar to the previous Gorillaz albums (ie. very eccentric scale of singers). Damon could have only chosen hiphop acts, but I'm glad he didn't.

I would have loved to hear more Hypnotic Brass Ensemble on this album, by the way. Shame they're only featured on the intro of "Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach" (the main brass riff is from the keyboards, right?).

It would have been interesting to hear Hypnotic Brass Ensemble playing in Rhinestone Eyes. At least they could try it live. I like the song, but i find it extremely overrated.
I'm loving this album. I listen it everyday since it came out and i didn't get bored of it at all. The track order works great for me, especially the progression between Empire Ants, Glitter Freeze and Some Kind Of Nature. And when i reach Plastic Beach i always think the album is about to end, but then comes To Binge and i can't believe it's always a surprise for me, like 'oh, i forgot this song was on here', which is lovely. Pirate Jet is a good ending in my opinion, and i think it has a good length. If it was a bit longer it would start making the album too long (i feel it stands there in the border). I'm also happy they decided to drop the idea of making the song gospel-like, as seen in the documentary. I had enough with Demon Days and Don't Get Lost In Heaven, honestly.
Another thing i like is that some guests appear in more than one song, which makes the album more cohesive and gives it a family feel that could be heard a bit in the first album as well.
It's quite strange what happened with the promotion of Stylo and i wonder what will happen with the next singles and the hypothetical b-sides.
My favorite tracks are: Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach, Some Kind Of Nature, To Binge and Cloud Of Unknowing (especially the second half, when the strings join).
Yeah.

Nice review Finwë!

'The Purple, The People, The Plastic Eating People' sounded actually pretty good in the documentary. I was pretty disappointed they were muted down in the final mix of The Pirate Jet... But you can't get everything. Wink

I haven't personally listened to Plastic Beach much in the few last weeks. I dunno, maybe I'm bored with it. For me it was surprisingly easy album to get into - much much easier than Demon Days or GBQ that I kept listening for months.
