I just bought the album today (the Experience edition) and I just can't go to bed, each track become better and better the more I listen..
Actually, I'm not doscovering them, since I listened a lot before to all the tracks on (legal) websites where I could listen to them from the start to the end.. and at first my impression was weird..
I read in other topics that Stylo doesn't make the unanimity.. I really like it, but I agree that it may not be a good first single.. even if I just love the Bobby Womack touch (just listen to his cover of California Dreamin', it's a gem!)
For the other tracks, just like it happened with Demon Days,I needed to listen a few times to get the melodies, to go into that plastic beach world.. and now, I'm just crazy about it!
My fav tracks so far are "Rhinestone Eyes" & "To Binge"
What about you, blur fellas? _________________ And into the sea goes pretty England and me |

I really like the album, would give it perhaps 8/10. The first seven tracks up to Empire Ants are excellent, then it turns just "good" or "average" with the bizarre ones like Glitter Freeze and Sweeptakes.
The album could have been a little longer though. As many people have said, some tracks like Superfast Jellyfish could have had another verse - now they leave me wanting more.

@ Veikko : Yeah, Glitter Freeze is weird, but I like a lot "Pirate Jet" or "Plastic Beach" (the intro itself makes it worth it..).
Also, there's a lot of tracks here, it's a plump album.. some albums just count 10 or so songs.. but I have to agree, some songs are too damn short!
And like Essexdogs, I love both "White Flag" and "Superfast Jellyfish".. I'm impressed at your list, I would change my mind by the time I finished typing it _________________ And into the sea goes pretty England and me |

I just watched the DVD that came with the Experience edition - boy, it was nice to hear some of the demos that didn't make it onto the album and just see them jamming around the studio.
I totally agree with the document part where Damon says everything is fragmented into multidimensional pieces today; Plastic Beach ironically reflects this fact (with the eccentric "2-in-1" songs like White Flag, Sweeptakes and Empire Ants). People don't have enough time to concentrate on one thing and everything ends up like Plastic Beach some day - a huge mess of things. I love this concept. |

Yeah, the documentary is great and I liked this idea too..
Also, the doc actually made me like "Sweepstakes".. Mos Def is a nice character and it gained some depth with more listening ; it was mostly noisy to me at first..
I like the all process of creation too, like when Damon asks to the Little Dragon singer to pick her fav track, and you see she's very decided on one and comes with a great voice-melody and lyrics.. it's fascinating... _________________ And into the sea goes pretty England and me |

This album is great. I'm not a fan of rap but it works on PB. Damon has done it again...I can't stop listening to this album! _________________ Blur Live Audio Archive Project: www.blurliveaudioarchiveproject.blogspot.com

Yes... She kinda reminds me of Martina Topley-Bird (too busy for Plastic Beach??), just as much as Bobby Womack reminds me of Ibrahim Ferrer (R.I.P.). |

I think that Martina reminds me Yukimi. But Ibrahim Ferrer and Bobby Womack...I cant see anything similiar. I like Bobby, but I love Ibrahim and Buena Vista Social Club. _________________ http://colin-zeal.blogspot.com/

Doesn't he sound a bit like Ibrahim on Cloud Of Unknowing? And Mark E. Smith / Lou Reed are comparable to Shaun Ryder IMHO. Thinking about this, it's possible that Damon wanted to have a similar cast he had on the previous Gorillaz albums. |
